Internationally renowned Eurorack expert DivKid (A.K.A. Ben Wilson) is here with this exclusive course on Oscillators. See all the different analog and digital oscillator modules in action and learn how to patch them up. Experience Eurorack with DivKid!

The Oscillator is the fundamental starting place in any Eurorack system. There are digital, analog and hybrid ones that are capable of creating multitudes of different wave shapes. There are also hundreds of Eurorack manufacturers whose oscillators all look and sound different. This makes it really hard to figure out how they work and which ones are right for you. That's why we contacted DivKid to make this exclusive course. No one knows Eurorack better or has as many oscillator modules to show!

One of the most exciting areas of music creation is modular synthesis, where you get to interconnect the fundamental building blocks of a synthesizer to create your own instrument. In this course, music industry veteran and synth designer Chris Meyer uses the Arturia Modular V software—a realistic emulation of the original Moog modular synths of the 1960s and 1970s—to teach you how to "patch" a modular synth to create your own sounds. Chris starts with the fundamentals of how harmonics and sound work, as well as how to connect the modules together. He then goes through the main modules individually, explaining the differences between oscillator waveshapes, filter types, and more, while demonstrating how to use them in a musical context. The third chapter teaches advanced techniques such as frequency and amplitude modulation, as well as using the effects and advanced filters in Arturia Modular V.

Topics include:

•How harmonics combine to create unique "timbres" or tone colors
•How to configure and navigate Arturia Modular V
•How to combine oscillators in series and in parallel to create thick sounds
•The aural differences between oscillator waveforms as well as filter types and slopes
•Different ways to apply and control LFOs to create tremolo, vibrato, and wah-wah effects
•How to use noise as a sound source as well as a way to introduce randomness into a patch
•What the individual controls in the delay, chorus, and phaser effects do

The Buchla 200e electronic music modules are world-renowned. This groundbreaking course is dedicated to teach the Buchla "way” and how these unique hybrid, analog/digital modules work. Learn Buchla with Todd Barton!

Donald Buchla was an electronic music pioneer. His instruments are revered and collected by great musicians the world over. Don recently passed away (2016) but his extraordinary 200e series modules are still being manufactured. This course, by longtime Buchla performer Todd Barton, explains and explores 10 of Buchla’s most popular modules including:

-261e Complex Waveform Generator
-281e Quad Function Generator 281e
-206e Mixer/Preset Manager
-259e Twisted Waveform Generator
-266e Source of Uncertainty
-222e Kinesthetic Input Port
-223e Tactile Input Port
-256e Quad Voltage Processor
-251e Sequential Voltage Source
-291 Triple Morphing Filter

If you’re into modular synthesizers, then you owe it to yourself to learn about Buchla’s electronic musical instruments. If you already own a Buchla, then this course can serve as a manual to help you get a better understanding of the Buchla "way". Either way, enjoy this unique course by Todd Barton and keep exploring the world of synthesis!

u-he's Zebra2 is a real animal of a virtual analog synth, and in this video tutorial series, synth expert Scottie Dugan covers every aspect of this amazing virtual software instrument!

Scottie begins with a birds-eye-view of Zebra2 as a whole, before focusing in on the patch window. He then covers the Synthesis window, where you create patches, load modules, and work with signal flow.

This leads into a discussion of the global settings such as Voice Mode to determine polyphony and general performance settings.

Next, Scottie explains and explores the Oscillator section, including all of its sub-panels containing fine tuning parameters for customizing nearly every aspect of the oscillator.

The Oscillator Wave Editor is then focused on, revealing how you can draw your own waveforms. Scottie then demonstrates how to use the Frequency Modulated Oscillator and the Noise Generator to add flavor and grit to your sound.

After that, Scottie explores all the filter modules in Zebra2. Zebra offers nearly every type of filter you can find in physical hardware, along with some unique software filters such as the Cross Modulation Filter.

But wait, Zebra has even more modules, and Scottie covers them all! He describes the Sideband, Distortion, Ring, and Mix modules, as well as the Modulation modules.

One of the most exciting areas of modern music creation is modular synthesis, where you get to assemble your own flexible and customizable instruments using components (aka modules) from a variety of manufacturers. In this course, music industry veteran and synth designer Chris Meyer guides you through putting together a modular system and interconnecting it with the rest of your studio. He reviews typical module arrangements, explains how the modules talk to each other, and covers details such as the differences between waveforms, filter modes, envelope types, and more. This course will be based around the widely available Roland SYSTEM-500 Eurorack-standard synthesizer modules, complemented with modules from several other manufacturers. As most modules, synthesizer keyboards, and plugins are designed around the same principles, this course lets you dig deeper into synthesis and programming your sounds regardless of the equipment you own.

Topics include:

* Putting a system together
* Getting sound in and out
* Patching a typical synthesizer "voice"
* Tuning voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs)
* Working with waveforms
* Using filter
* Exploring frequency modulation, waveshaping, oscillator sync, effects, and mor
