This little marvel comprises three instrument sets – acoustic, muted and amped. Each set features a number of fully tweakable sounds which can be edited, blended together and given the full Sound Dust treatment to create your own unique Prepared Pianet.

After a period of evolutionary development, the new Pendleonium? is here. The control panel has undergone a complete re-think. The new look is sharp and purposeful and the layout of instruments and functions is intuitive and user friendly. A total of 6 sampled source instruments are arranged left to right across the main panel - two baritone guitars, two infinity guitars, Spring Viola and an additional instrument based on samples created with a vintage Roland Space Echo.

Each individual source instrument comes with greatly enhanced editing tools, offering wave shape, ADSR, effects, and volume. To the right of the instrument panel is a dedicated editing bay offering yet more capability. Here you will find reverb and delay sends, reverb, rotor, EQ and dirt for gnarly lo-fi effects.

A second interface window can be opened for velocity and round robin. The best thing about the P? though, is playing it. With its unique sounds and easy editing, The P? is an absolute pleasure to play and tweak as you go. It must be stated that this instrument is not attempting to sound like anything else or even to offer any faithful reproduction of its source instruments.

The P? excels at creating complex sounds, pianos, strings, smooth synth-like pads, rumbles, and unfathomable noises. At lower registers the Pendleonium? can produce seismic movement and deep rich textures. In high registers it can be configured to produce sounds like ripples passing through mercury.

The insides of a vintage Stage 73 electric piano are a fascinating place. The classic keyboard sound is just the begining - the large electromagnetic harp holds entirely new sonic worlds - if you're prepared to look for them.

Taking our cue from Broken Wurli and our Xtended Piano instruments, we first sampled the keyboard in unprecedented detail, taking not only line-out samples but also close-miked hammers and a contact mic signal from each tine.

Then we went even deeper. We opened the EP lid up some more, exposed the harp and started to explore..

The most detailed vintage Stage 73 instrument available. In addition to traditional line-out samples, the hammers were recorded with a microphone, and can be blended with the main output. This is a traditional electric piano recording technique that adds some extra attack and presence to the sound. A contact mic channel was also recorded, this adds a different attack transient and texture to the overall sound.

Control over key-off noise, pedal noise and sympathetic cabinet resonance using Kontakt's convolution processor add to the very physical, 3-D realism of this instrument's sound.

An amazing sounding, one of a kind "acoustic" piano made by spurting bursts of controlled noise through unsuspecting piano samples. Plastic Ghost Piano is a warm, richly sampled, analogue sounding hybrid piano with some real character and lots of sonic possibilities. There really is nothing else like her. Sounds range from warm, woody and expressive acoustic piano to blissed out orchestral haze.

There are 6 unlikely sound components that make this possible...

The Plastic Piano is a multisampled piano patch made on a Techinics WSA1 modelling keyboard . Each individual sampled note was then loaded into a convolution reverb plug in and blasted with varying levels of controlled white noise and the output recorded and remapped as a 6 velocity layer multisample.

The Copperphone is a custom instrument (+2.000 samples) made from modified Copper pipes. The end-result is a 12 pipe instrument that sounds that sounds somewhere between pristine bells and metallic marimba of sorts. The Copperphone contains five core deep-sampled articulation types, which were made by playing the instrument with hard mallet, soft mallet, wooden mallet, muted notes and finger nails. The hard mallet, wooden and finger nails have the most pronounced attack – where the soft mallet has a more smooth and relaxed tone.

The muted articulation is a non-sustained sample of the Copperphone.

The Copperphone contains 32 of additional patches, which are partially modified versions of the core patches with filter control, delay, reverb, convolutions and so forth. You will also find 15 custom ambiences that were all 100% made with the Copperphone, so the ambiences blend completely with the Copperphone itself. All the core patches were deep-sampled extensively in several velocity layers and with 8 x round robin (repetition) pr. layer.

Toy pianos are usually limited to being a great little additional tinkly instrument, but with usually only a few keys, a simple additional colour at best!
Not for Rattly And Raw...

We were not going to be put off by the annoyingly small key range of normal toy pianos! We loved the sound and wanted to expand the tiny key-range of this childish characterful sound into, well, a huge key-range of childish characterful sound.

So We Did...

Two massive 5 octave toy pianos constructed from genuine toy piano recordings, loose tines, prepared piano recordings, celeste recordings, multiple mic positions, convolution based body resonance and lots of tweaking.

Ships Piano³ takes the original acclaimed Sound Dust Ships Piano sample instrument and adds two more really great sounding character pianos to the mix.

Think of her as a character piano modeller, you can cunningly combine different aspects of each piano to create impossible sounding piano hybrids. Just don't expect the usual bland, silky smooth tones of those other over sampled piano monsters.

The fun doesn't stop there though, Ships Piano³ isn't just a pretty face.

She also comes with the Satie-anator sequencer engine which combined with the keyswitch operated scale and key commands is a full on inspiration machine!
